Google Voice – Buggy in Gmail with two numbers

Posted in Chrome, Gmail, Google Apps, Google Voice, Uncategorized with tags , , , on May 21, 2010 by CT Questions

We like Google Voice and decided to give our company an additional Google Voice number.

We experienced the following snafus:

  1. Google Voice correctly sends incoming Voice mails to the right email accounts.
  2. Google voice in our original Gmail and in the new Gmail account both show the new Google Voice dial out configuration which does not work at all.  We can’t access our original Google Voice Dial out in it’s dedicated email.
  3. We have to dial out – outside of Gmail via phone or log in to the account.

We have not found a fix for this.  Advice Welcome.

Google Auto Dial – Phone Number Formats that Don’t Work

Posted in Chrome, Gmail, Google Apps, Google Voice, Uncategorized with tags , , on April 27, 2010 by CT Questions

Google Voice Auto-Dial does not always work.  We have found that the following types of phone number formats do not activate AutoDial According to our findings, Auto-dial cannot read these number formats:

  • xxx.xxx.xxxx  i.e. 333.333.3333
  • (xxx) xxx-xxxx i.e. (333) 333-3333
  • phone numbers on an imagephone numbers on a gif or jpg

According to our findings. Phone numbers must be written in this format to pull up Auto-Dial:

    • xxx-xxx-xxxx i.e. 333-333-3333

Ironically, Google Voice Email Alerts format your callers numbers as (xxx) xxx-xxxx in the Email Subject Line.

Hopefully Google is working on this!

How to Use AutoDial - Phone Number Formats

We love Google Voice Auto Dial.   In your Google Voice/Gmail account, run your cursor over a phone number and Voila, a dialog box pops up.  Dial the number by selecting the phone you want to dial out from.  Google Voice rings your phone at that number and connects your call when you pick up.

Google Voice – How to Install Google Voice Extension to Chrome

Posted in Chrome, Google Apps, Uncategorized with tags , , , , on April 25, 2010 by CT Questions

We still have not figured out how to re-install Google Voice on our desktop.   (See How to Re-Install Google Voice).  We did find out that Google Voice can be installed in Chrome. This applications functionality is limited but useful.

      If you have Chrome installed:

    Under chrome extensions:

    https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/kcnhkahnjcbndmmehfkdnkjomaanaooo

Works when:  You must to be logged in to your Google Account (the one that has a Google Voice number)

Does Not Work when:   When you exit  chrome or log  into a Google Account without a Google Voice Number, this function does not work.

Restore Images to Gmail in Mozilla Firefox

Posted in Gmail, Google Apps, Mozilla Firefox Apps with tags , , on April 3, 2010 by CT Questions

We are avid Gmail users.  The other day we upgraded Mozilla and suddenly Gmail lost all its icons in Mozilla and became unusable.  We had not realized that the Gmail user interface was so image dependant.  We were about to abandon Mozilla.  Further investigation revealed the situation is fixable.

1.Prevention: Mozilla Firefox upgrades may overwrite your previous settings.  Look at your settings and note them down before upgrading.

    2. Fix:

    Mozilla Firefox Load Images Setting

Go to your Mozilla menu- Options. Go to Content.  Check: Images Load Automatically.

Wanted- Meta Tag Guaranteed to Flush CHROME Browser Cache!

Posted in Chrome, Google Apps, WebSite Tips for Dummies with tags , , on April 1, 2010 by CT Questions

We can’t find a meta tag that will clear Chrome’s browser cache. The standard one’s we use on our site don’t work.

This one works with a manual refresh of Chrome:

    META Http-Equiv=”Cache-Control” Content=”no-store”

Without this Meta Tag our Chrome browser does not refresh web pages.

    Any advice welcome here!

Opera Notes – NotePad in Your Browser makes web memos a breeze!

Posted in Opera Browser and Widgets with tags , , , on March 11, 2010 by CT Questions

Opera-notes- Note Pad in a Browser Tab

We love the Opera Notes feature which is like using Microsoft Notepad in a Browser Tab.  If you are constantly writing  or copying text while online, it’s worth installing the Opera Browser just for this feature.

    We Like:

    1. Notes are saved automatically when they are created.  No need to hit a Save Button!
    2. Notes can be Added, Stored, Edited or Deleted.
    3. The first line of your Note is the Title.  All titles are viewable on the left sidebar for easy access.
    4. Cut and paste text to and from your desktop apps or the web
    5. Once configured to Opera Email, you can email any note with a click of the Send Button.

    Glitch:
We don’t recommend free Opera Email as your main email client as there are too many ads and too few perks.
Opera Email crashed our browser the first time we tried to test the Send feature,  Second time we succeeded in emailing  our note.

Google Voice Transcripts can be Google Garbled, Help them to Improve!

    Posted in Google Apps with tags , , , , , , on March 4, 2010 by CT Questions

Google Voice provides transcripts of calls that can be good for a laugh.   We were frustrated with this feature, until we noticed that inaccurate voice mail transcripts can be flagged and sent back to Google for improvement.   Hopefully Google Engineers are working on this 24/7. They need all the help they can get!

Here are some recent examples of voice mail to text which do not resemble the original voice mail!

“This is in the house experts it is….”

” just see how you’re going to use until afternoon. …”

“just calling up for the snowing case he works. He’s coming up. I called you earlier last week but still headphones a touching your voicemail….”

To flag a call, look at lower right.   Hit the X
